Bio
Adrian Scott, Ph.D.
Adrian Scott is the founder of Ryze, a business networking service which
has been nominated for a Webby Award and written about in the New York Times,
the Washington Post, the London Guardian and other publications.
Adrian previously co-founded Flycode (formerly AppleSoup), an Internet startup
in the peer-to-peer space. He has been an investor in several startups,
including Napster and Giganet (acquired by Emulex). He is an adviser to Starmine, which
rates investment analysts.
Adrian has done technical development and consulting for major financial
and high-technology corporations, including Charles Schwab & Co., Bank of
America, Symantec, Hewlett-Packard, as well as smaller fast-paced firms
such as Technology Funding and Match.Com.
In addition to his Internet development experience, he has
spoken and given tutorials on the Internet at conferences internationally,
including Internet World Spring and Summer US, Internet World
Korea, Web Developer Canada, and Internet World Canada.
Adrian is a contributing author to six major Internet books, including
World Wide Web Unleashed, Inside the WWW, CGI and HTML Unleashed,
and Java Unleashed. He has also written articles for Developer.com, Java Report
magazine, NetscapeWorld, VRMLSite and other publications. He founded
VRMLSite.
Adrian was the youngest student to graduate
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute when he graduated at age
16 in 1990. He completed his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1993,
with a dissertation on the applications of nonlinear optimization
to finding protein binding sites on DNA. During his studies he
completed half an M.B.A. and spent a summer in the National Science
Foundation's Summer Institute in Japan, where he was hosted by
the Institute of Physical and Chemical Sciences' Genetic Information
Bank in Tsukuba Science City.
At the end of his studies at RPI, Adrian studied Cantonese and
Sales Force Management at Chinese University of Hong Kong, later
returning as a Visiting Scholar in Hong Kong Polytechnic University's
Department of Management.
Throughout his life, he has been inspired greatly by his parents.
He has also performed with the
New York City Ballet and sung with Placido Domingo.
